i already have beta pellets ( i know, not much at a time) and i have tablets for scavengers (i know, not more than one a day).... i'm not concerned with what they eat, i'm more concerned with trying to find fish that can live together in that small of a tank. personally, i hate seeing animals in tanks that small, but this one is for work, and i know i won't over croud it, even if i just get one beta. any more ideas???

thanks, again!!

It really depends on the personality of your betta. I'm sure if it was at least a 10 gallon they would be fine together, but just incase, i would buy a small bowl (although i'm against putting bettas in bowls) so you can put the betta or cory in if they don't get along. But, cory's, like what was mentioned above, are scavengers, so unless you are feeding your betta flakes WHICH BETTA FISH DO EAT then the cory won't get anything to eat.

I disagree with the user that said betta's are not able to cope with other fish in their tank despite temper, gender, species, etc. They can, and many people do it with no hassle, it DOES ultimately depend of the temperment of the fish.

Please completely ignore anyone that said they would be fine together. That is about the complete opposite from the correct answer for multiple reasons.

1. Male bettas do not get along with ANY type of fish regardless to sex, species, or temperament. And it's not like they just won't like each other, the betta will brutally rip the other fish apart.

2. Corys need to be in groups or "shoals" of 5 or more to be happy. They are extremely schooling fish and need to have friends.

3. Bettas eat food that tends to float and doesn't leave any excess food behind. Corys are scavengers and need food at the bottom which would both dirty the water and confuse the betta.

4. Corys don't really prefer that warm of water and prefer water 75-29 degrees.

If you want your betta to have a friend, get him a snail. =D

I would say yes. Your Cory cat is a bottom feeder so is not really fascinated with your Betta's flowing fins. Your Betta will tolerate most fish but not another Betta. Just be sure if you put another fish in with them that it is a fish that will not go after your Betta's fins thinking it is food waving in the water. Also if you add one more fish it will have to be a small one. Your 5 gal tank wont hold much more fish than that.

They will be fine together, Bettas hang around at the surface usually and corys are always on the bottom looking for leftover food. But i wouldn't keep any cory cats in a 5 gallon.

A catfish doesn't bother any other fish. The beta is fine with any fish other than another beta, and only becomes aggressisve if he feels overcrowded. That is a fine combination.

Its a possibility, though I would get two cory cats. Other fish and aqautic species a male betta should be fine with, two dwarf african frogs, ghost shrimp, butterfly loaches aka hillstream river loach.
