I asked this question before and only one person had the balls to answer it. I didnt like the answer, so I am asking again. Why is it ok for hollywood to hire based on race and appearance, and the rest of the companies in america can not? Yes I know only a black man can portray Martin Luther King. Besides those roles. Why couldnt Nathan Hunt in Mission Impossible have been an irishman, or maybe indian? If someone actually knows why the double standard please enlighten me.

I suppose they can get away with it because there are more white actors/actresses than black. AND, since there are less blacks, their excuse can always be that they were not good enough for the role. Besides, we are talking about movies, acting, etc. Companies who run businesses are not involved with how one looks or what their race is, this is why it is a double standard. Companies will get slapped with a lawsuit if they discriminate. Movies, acting roles, commercials are based on looks, appearance, race, etc...it is much easier to get away with it.

Because racism still exists... Even though people might not publicly show it, it's still there, and the race of characters in a movie influence the movie viewers' opinion. The wrong choice of an actor could result in millions of dollars being lost.
Meanwhile, in a different job field, racism isn't tolerated for morality issues, and to avoid being sued.

Because casting people go out of there way not to be racist. They try to hard not to offend anyone. Without looking at the quality of the actor, they're too concerned with how they depict people.
