Always draw a picture when you have trouble.

You know that the base and the leg are x and x+1, and you know that the leg is longer than the base. So that makes the base x and the leg x+1. If it is isosceles, then the other leg is also x+1

So x + x+1 + x+1 = 20

Edit : Don't forget, that once you find x, that is just the length of the base. The question asked you for the length of each side, so don't forget to find the other side lengths as well (x+1)!!

Isosceles definition: two sides are equal
According to the problem, it must be the legs that are equal (leg is longer than the base).

Let x= measure of base
Thus, leg = x+1, but you have 2 of the legs
All three add up to 20.

You can take it from here!

i am going to attempt to describe the perfect i can: initially, whenever you want to sparkling up for a variable (to that end x), you should placed the variable on one aspect and the different numbers on the different. So first placed the x on the left aspect of the equation. to attempt this, you'll note that x is adverse (-x). because of this, to stability the equation, you upload useful x to both aspect: 5 + x = 8 - x + x Now, you do not ignore that -x + x equals 0, so you may now take that out of the equation: 5 + x = 8 Now you should placed the 5 on the right aspect so x might want to be on my own. you do not ignore that 5 is a good huge form (+5), with a view to stability the equation, you subtract 5 on both aspect: 5 - 5 + x = 8 - 5 5 - 5 equals 0, so you may now take that out of the equation: x = 8 - 5 you may now sparkling up x extremely. x = 3 So this suggests the merely good answer is x = 3 If we plug in 3 to the equation, we are going to se that it truly is real. 5 = 8 - 3 5 = 5 i wish this allows =)

let the base=x
perimeter is x+x+1+x+1=3x+2=20
3x=18
x=6

The base is 6 & the sides are 7

6, 7, and 7 are the legnths
these are the only integers that will work in this situation
