Hugh Laurie - the British actor/comedian/pianist - said this in response to a question from James Lipton - the host of Inside the Actor's Studio - about how he learned to speak like an American for his role of Dr House. He said he picked up his accent from watching American films or TV programs.

I think for 3 main reasons -one is that our movies are watched all over -2 our tv is watched everywhere and -3 the military power that we have and unfortunally arent' afraid to use when we want regardless of whethor we have good reasons or not

I think that's a pretty fair thing to say. It does make you wonder though if this leave America a little vulnerable in some ways.... American culture is accessible by all - not just America's allies.

yea, i would agree. not to make ppl sound mean or anything but alot of americans dont care...we dont need to know much if anything at all about other cultures, if you dont leave the us you dont need to know. i kind of learn about spanish and mexican because of my spanish class but outside of what i learn there i dont know much. the other americans who do learn about others probably have a reason kind of like why people learn about the us life.
