The time of sunset varies with location. For example, the further north you are the longer the days are in summer, and the shorter in winter. And the further West you are the later the sunset, providing you're still in the same time zone. So times at John O'Groats will be quite different to Penzance.

The date you've picked is as near as makes very little difference to the autumn equinox, which is notable because day length is 12 hours all over the world. So actually, how far North or South you are will not make much difference on this day. Sunset will be at pretty close to 18:00 true local time. In Greenwich, true local time is GMT, so in Greenwich at 18:00 GMT, which is 19:00 British Summer Time. As you move west from there it will be later by 4 minutes for every 1 degree of longtitude.

There are plenty of calculators on the web, eg

This is a great site for these type of things - http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html?n=136

In answer to your question, if we use London as location, on 1 Sept it was 7:47 pm. By 30 Sept it was 6:41.

However, if you use Glasgow as location, the times are:
1 Sept - 8:12
30 Sept - 6:55

You might find this site of help as it contains a lot of data of that sort!

Alternatively try this one which actually allows you to put in location etc to perform the calculation..... Use second form!

http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneYear.html

Failing that, try looking through the archives of one of the UK broadsheets, as they usually publish such info on a daily basis!

Hope this Helps!
