I agree with Gooch's answer.
I am now doing fine but doing the things the hard way has taken its toll.
Do not chase the money. Do what you like to do for employment.
If you get money or fame people constantly try to take it from you so this alone is not a good goal. (lawyers, government, x wifes)
It is great that you are asking this question. I hope your young enough to have the answers make a big difference in your life.
Do not be selfish. Always try to figure out what the other person is thinking and why they behave the way they do.
Go out of your way for many people (not all are deserving) and your rewards will be great.

Personally I have the greatest life I can possibly imagine. A husband that is a dream !! A wonderful son and pets so cute you just want to bite them. I got to this point due to NOT listening to others and following what I felt was right. I wouldn't change anything.
Financially I am wonderful as well. I got to this point, again, by NOT listening to very many people and seeking out people financially smarter than me & limiting time spent with people who are / were very stupid with or unable to manage their money. The only thing I would change is that I would of saved and invested even more than I did.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh life is good !!

i am right where i want to be!
i had a very hard year before this one, with lot of depression.. when i finally came up with the PLAN!
you always need a plan. not with only 1 aim, but with many aims ... so that one would fail to have alternatives! like: i am studying. not because "i dreamed about going to college"! but because i dreamed about being somoen and for that aim i need to study this,... in my freetime to work.. anything, and to have fun with my friends and to volunteer, what will help me also to reach my aim...
so:
1. have an aim.
2. make strategies to get it - maybe it will take more years, just see the dream in front of you
3. the most important HAVE AN OPEN MIND... which will help you to addopt to any situation shows up!

I get to my job for three main reason:
1. hard works (good work ethic)
2. Compassion for my clients (good customer service) because I work with a lot of clients
3. Good heart.
You might not believe it but a good heart person always get blessing even though you are not suppose to do good things for blessing but I believe a lot of good things happened to me not just because I am lucky because I was blessing (Karma from Buddhism) that what goes around will come around. so at my job, although I never pray for certain things, It came because I use good heart to treat my clients and my life I tried my best to help others, not for reward (good karma) but becaue I truly want to. I am thankful that I have good blessing at work but even I didn't, I would still continue to help others, (although I probably won't able to have as much energy or money to do so)
My personality, I think although I am a kind person but tend to be bit sensitive, is good that I don't hurt no one but I tend to live more sad and worrysome.
If I could choose to do differently, I would choose that I would able to learn Buddhism early on in my life, I would learn that Happiness start from within and not based on any other outside factors. if your heart is happy, then you're happy. but if you're heart is not, even you are in heaven, you still depress.
I learn so much that life might not seems fair sometimes but it is fair. If you have a kind and compassion in your heart, you loving others and care for others. your life will be blessing, I mean you will become a happier person, not because those good actions cause good karma to you (because remember no one know when it will come)
it is because when the moment you kind to someone, you have arleady received the biggest gift in your heart.
so be kind, you will get far. don't expect return.
