The Shining was made in 1980 by Stanley Kubrick, based on the novel by Stephen King and starring the great and very talented Jack Nicholson "Heeeere's JOHNNY!"

Depends on which version you are watching. The original starring Jack Nicholson came out in 1980. There was also a mini-series made in 1997 starring Stephen Weber. The first one is the classic everyone knows, but the second was more accurate to the actual storyline.

Which version? There was the 1980 version with Jack Nicholson and then there was the 1997 made for TV version with Steven Webber and Rebecca DeMornay. Take your pick.

There was a low budget version in 1977, however the Kubrick version, starring Jack Nicholson, was released in 1980
