When Daniel (Cruise) freaks out on Jo (Moore) towards the end of the movie, Jo turns to him and says. "I'm sorry I lost your set of steak knives" before promptly leaving. I've watched this movie dozens of times but never picked up what that is in referrence to. What is she talking about?

Earlier in the movie when she accuses him of plea bargaining every case...never been to trial. He says something like "two more and I get a set of steak knives"

Watch it again, you'll see it.

My favorite movie by the way.

A set of steak knives was usually a cheapo prize on a game show. I think she is referring to the fact that the Cruise character only worries about winning the case, not really serving justice. The men he represents are guilty of the crime they have committed, but the bigger crime is that they are "told" to do it by the Marine Corps mindset (instilled by Jack Nicholson's character). So Moore's character is mad at Cruise's character because he wants to get through the case as easily as possible, without any fuss, and she has thrown the wrench into that because she wants to see justice served.

He's pretending they're on a game show, like The Price Is Right or Let's Make a Deal--one where they give prizes at certain points during gameplay.

She's suggesting that he's not taking the trial seriously.
