Try ubuntu. It's easy to use, and they'll even ship you CDs completely free.

While that is generally a question left up to personal preference, my personal favourite for the sake of simplicity and easy of use is called Ubuntu. (http://www.ubuntu.org/) The installation CD is also a live CD, which means you can run the operating system without installing it so that you can get a feel for it without making any actual system changes. It's also based on the Debian distribution, which means there is a lot of software that has been natively packaged for it.

For ease of use, and for the most Windows-Like of the Linux distros, try Xandos or Linspire. If you want the most functionality, then SuSE, Fedora Core, or Ubuntu. I strongly suggest getting a live-cd and trying it out before installing it to your hard drive. I use Xandros for my home and work machines. Most things work really well. However, my wireless PCI card that Xandros wouldn't install installed fine under Fedora Core 6 64 bit edition. Xandros, whereas it is the easiest to use, is not free. It costs about 30 dollars, US. The edition with crossover installed (you want this) is 60.
