I am working on a story, and I can't always find the time to work on it, so I thought that if I put onto a disc, than I can work on it from computers other than mine. I tried it, but it doesn't seem to work. It just says that it is a 'read-only' document. Thank You!

don't use a CD, if you do, use a CD-RW. If you have used it to a CD-R, copy it to the computer, then work on it.
Or use a USB drive, much easier.

To use a CD as a floppy, you have to use CD/RW, and it must first be formatted with the software that powers your burner -- for example, Nero powers my Samsung. Using Nero, I format a CD/RW.

You should be aware that you will not be able to open this on another computer unless you download Nero's "easy write reader" -- a small program which you will put on the other computer. If you are networked, you might not be able to do this.

Save yourself a lot of aggravation by getting a flashdrive (assuming the other PC has a USB connection) or a floppy disk (if the PC is a bit older and has a floppy disk drive installed).

Flashdrives work exactly as floppies. Newer PCs do not have a floppy drive, but do have 4 to 6 USB ports. They are not to expensive. In today's paper a 1G was advertised for anywhere from $10 to $20 with rebates.

Simply format a blank CD and copy the desired file to the C drive. It should transfer then. If not just keep emailing it to yourself.

well, first, insert the disk into the correct drive, and click save as in the word document. go to my computer and look for the drive that the disk is in. click on that drive and save into that file.
