The egg.
It was laid by a Red Junglefowl, a Gallus species originating in Asia. It is not a chicken; it is, however, the ancestor of all chickens.
Somewhere down the line, one of the Red Junglefowl's eggs' DNA was mutated, and the egg produced a new kind of bird, a chicken. Which means, the Red Junglefowl's egg came before the chicken. And the first true chicken egg was laid by that chicken.
Since God is considered the first CREATOR, he created DNA from chemicals originating in the NOTHING(the Big Bang). Since every living animal is made from some DNA, it was he who created the chicken, and the bird's egg that it hatched from.

A chicken is born from a chicken egg even if its not a "chicken's egg." On the other hand, life appears to have been eggs long before the chicken came about, so, the egg, no matter how you crack it.
AND it isn't about what God said happens, it's about how you interpret it. If you are narrow minded, then you believe the account in a narrow minded way. If you open minded and reasonable, then you will see it in that way.

I belive this question ultimately leads to the question of a first cause, ie, how did God become God? (let's assume a God please for this discussion.) I don't think our brains are not wired yet to understand that maybe it is more natural to exist than not to exist or the process involved in this. For the bible fundamentalists, "did Adam and Eve have bellybuttons?" Does our God have a God? and so forth? I don't have any answer to any of this except just a good feeling that in the end of our lives there is something good and that all the intellectual discussions we have in this forum are very positive in our understanding of existence. I do ask for positive feedback and not negative comments attacking the person making a question or giving an answer. I go for the chicken. It just feels good.

At this stage in history, it is not possible for us to answer your question conclusively. One reason is because protein depends on DNA, but DNA also depends on protein in order to exist. Your question is like asking, "Which came first, the protein or the DNA?"
We do not know whether protein or DNA came first. Therefore, we are not sure whether the chicken or the egg came first. One can surmise that the chicken might have been created before the egg. However, this does not circumvent the scientific problem involving protein and DNA.

I would say the egg. I believe in evolution, so, over time while whatever the chicken came from evolves, it laid the egg with the chicken inside..Not sure if that made much sense, but you get my drift.

The egg. The first true chicken was the mutated embryo born from the egg of a proto-chicken.

God, chickens, eggs...
Really, who cares?
God and other religions cause wars, over 'who is right?'
Chickens and eggs taste good fried.
I say we all sit down together as one world and enjoy a chicken and egg sandwich peacefully. =)
