I have a bearded dragon. They get 2 or 3 feet long. They are easily cared for. You need to keep the tank at about 80-90 Degrees Fahrenheit. The tank can be any size if it can run around in it. They look kinda like a Horned lizard but they are not poisonous. When they start to get older they can get mean. The person at the top doesn't know anything about bearded dragons. They can not weigh up to 56 lbs they can only get up to 20-40 lbs. They do not run around when you let then out they are almost always calm. I got mine at a reptile show but you can get then at First Monday. If you cant find a bearded dragon anywhere, Leopard Gecos are good too.

We rescued a bearded dragon and let me tell you, it was one of the best things we've ever done! As long as you have a baby bearded, then a 20 gallon tank will do, but the biggest one you'll need for only one of them, is a 40 gallon tank. You will need UVA-UVB bulb, and a bowl for water, and one for greens, fruits, and another bowl for mealworms and crickets with Repto-cal. That's the hardest part is the startup costs, then as long as you take your bearded dragon out every day, and play with it, and let it hang out with you or around the house, the temperament should be fine! They are great with kids, with families, and love to be around people! I think they and leopard geckos are both great first time reptiles to get, so enjoy! How old is your daughter? I would say if she is at least 10 years old or around there, it'll be good for her to learn how to take care of a pet and have a buddy to be with!!! Good luck and ENJOY! Don't listen to some of these others on here, how big they get, pounds or otherwise, oh please! The males are usually bigger, and they get to be around 18 inches, nose to tail and not weight of 20 lbs?56? Be as informed as possible, before buying any pet, reptile, mammal.

They are realitivly easy to take care of, but it is an expense setting up a proper envrioment. For an adult, 55 gal minimum, however, if you can find a tank with more ground space, since 55 gal tend to be tall and narrow, then I would reccomend that. I personally used breader tanks, which offer more ground space.

you might try this website,

They have caresheets, and all sorts of information about beardies

If you do decide to get a bearded dragon, you want to find one that is at least 2 months, if not older. They are a lot more hardy at that age.

I have both of mine in seperate 40 gallon breeder tanks. They need a heat source and a UV light. I suggest getting a book before getting one. Beardies are friendly and docile. They need crickets when they are young but eat mostly vegetarian as adults. I don;t suggest getting one from a pet store but if you do, take what the sales person tells you with a grain of salt as they often do not know what they are talking about. I suggest getting one from a local breeder.

The first poster is totally wrong. They get about 18 inches long and only weight 1-3 lbs.

I have one he is about a foot long now, but for one dragon the tank should be about a thirty long when they are full grown, you can start out with a ten gallon tank if you need to, but later on he or she will need a bigger tank. They are one of the easiest reptiles that I have had and are very easily tamed, but I would suggest getting one at a very young age to start out with so they can get to know you as they grow up.

Bearded dragons are poor pets for children. They get large, need special equipment, and require supplements are alot of extra care. Are you prepared to buy a 100 gallon tank, basking bulb, uva/uvb lights, substrate, many crickets, worms, live food, chopped veggies daily, toys to climb on, calcium supplements, cricket dust, and mineral dust? This is just a start but they are essential if you don't want to have a sick or dead beardie. I suggest an easier pet like a leopard gecko, anole, hermit crabs, or a small snake.

I do not know much about bearded dragons, but I do know that they are pretty easy, and sometimes not easy to take care of. They are hard to take care of because once you let it out of its cage, it climbs very fast and tries to get away. You would have to keep it in its cage for a long time, or it'll be some trouble if you let it out. And it's hard to find food for a bearded dragon unless you want to feed it crickets, but crickets can jump pretty high, and some special crickets can even jump out of the cage. Bearded dragons can get up to the size of 5 chiuauas. Pretty big, and can weigh about up to 56 pounds. Good luck taming it!
