A spring compressor can be had on loan from a lot of parts stores, notably, Autozone. I personally never use one to replace the spring, just to take tension off, when replacing wheel bearings of axle shafts. The reason I don't use them for that purpose is because the spring is a very dangerous thing when totally uncontained under pressure. Since your car is now 15 years old, I would recommend buying a strut assembly, which consists of the strut, spring, and other attaching parts. They are much easier to replace because it is a complete unit, but still requires some compression of the spring to install. Since the front end would need aligning afterwards, I would suggest you pay to have it done at a shop that offers both mechanic work and alignment.

That is know as a strut do not attempt to remove without proper tools could wind up being very painful. You have to have a spring compressor for the strut to remove and replace the spring or strut the spring very seldom causes problems if you are having a problem it will probably be the strut it usually causes a popping sound when you turn accelerate fast or stop if this is the case sometimes you can spray the shiny part of the strut which goes up and down with w d 40 or trans fluid this will soak the seal that is dry and causes the problem repeat until the noise stops if not replace the strut good luck

This is called a "strut" and the spring should NOT be tampered with for any reason. It is factory preloaded under very significant pressure, enough to handle approximately one fourth the vehicles weight. So, if a vehicle such as your LeBarron weights 3000 lbs., then each strut would need to support 750 lbs. That would be enough to take your head off! These figures are quite relative, but you get the idea. DO NOT under any circumstances try to replace just the spring. Replace the whole strut!

by using a Strut Spring Compressor, BUT I don't recommend you doing this.... First of all the Strut Spring Compressor tool cost approximately $850.00. And you would be better off taking it to someone with experience rather than trying it yourself. You can get hurt and it takes alot to Compress that Spring... Good Luck.

Have the spring removed by a mechanic, they have the proper tools to compress the spring. They are under a lot of pressure and not to be fooled with, one slip and the spring can take your head off!

You can go ta a parts store and buy an inexpensive spring compressor about $10 to $20 and follow the instructions and use a little common sense and be careful.. If you are not mechanically inclined forget the above and take vehicle to a garage.....

to get the spring out you need to have a spring compressor, Have the job done at a garage. it is a very dangerious job if you do not have the right tools, and the right knowledge. sometimes you can buy replaces that come with the strut, spring and mount, but they are almost twice the price.
