Yes - you first need a bachelors degree (generally people major in psychology, but that isn't required). Then, you will need a masters degree, either in clinical or counseling psychology. After you receive your masters, you will need to pass the LPC exam (Licensed Professional Counselor). Depending on what state you are licensed in, you may need to pass an additional exam after you have been working and have been supervised for 2 years called the LCPC (Licensed Certified Professional Counselor). This final exam will allow you to collect third party payments (ie insurance) from clients.

Now, if you want to become either a psychologist, you'll need a Ph.D. or a psychiatrist - you'll need to go to medical school. You can find more information on colleges and universities that offer a masters degree in clinical/counseling psychology on various websites, and don't forget that you'll also have to take the GRE.

At least a Master's Degree but usually a Doctorate or PsyD and the classes needed depend on the university you attend.

Sorry, I am in another country, so I can't help you. But I would like to do the same kind of thing. So good luck. I hope it works out well for you.
