I am being induced tomorrow since I am past my due date. The doctor said they were most likely going to use a catheter to stimulate the cervix to contract and then use pitocin...

If you were induced, how did they do it and how did it go? How long were you in labor?

I was induced with both of my children 2 weeks early because my husband works out of town. They used the pill they put on your cervix. With my first child I wasnt dialated at all when we started and it took about 11 hours. On my second child I was dialated to a 2 when we started and it took about 15 hours. So you never can tell. But since you are past your due date your cervix is probably thinned out so it shouldnt take long. With the pitocin it makes the contractions more painful but an epidural will make you relax and usually makes you dialate faster. Good Luck!

I was never induced but from close friends that have I know their contractions were very strong once the pitocin was administered, so they had to give the epidural which only prolonged contractions as you don't feel them as much as you would without (of course). 3/5 friends had to have c-sections because they were too damn tired to do anything, or the baby wasn't engaged enough. I was 9 days overdue and had a wonderful experience delivering without induction. Good LUck, and remember that all labour experiences are different, and no one can really prepare you. ENJOY.

Induced 8 days past my due date. Did it by suppository, first one inserted about 9:30 p.m., scheduled to insert another but water broke about 2:00 a.m. with labor starting. Labored until 12:00 p.m. next day, but was less than 1/2 cm. dilated. Started pitocin, at about 1:00 p.m., epidural started at about 2:00 p.m., then dilated super fast and started pushing at about 6:30 p.m., and baby born at 9:20 p.m. with low forceps. It was a typical labor but couldn't take the pitocin without the epidural.

I was induced with the use of cervidil. I was in labor for 16 hours (third child). At some point while I was having contractions my baby turned. I know this becuase at one point when my doctor checked me she commented that he had a lot of hair too because my other two had full heads of hair. We did not know he turned until they took me in for an emergency c-section and that's when they realized he was breech and had turned, which is why he was not coming down the birth canal. I was completely efaced and completely dialated but there was nothing to push so they did the c-section.
