Find a babysitter or a family member to watch him. In some states it is illegal to leave a child of that age home alone while you go out of state. If the project is that important bring the project with you, stay home, or speak with the teacher about extending the deadline of the project. NOTHING is worth risking your sons well being.

Hi there !!!
You should either stay home , delay the trip a bit longer, or have someone that is of legal age stay with him. Maybe he can stay over at the girls house, if you know her parents and feel comfortable with that.
I would not leave him alone. Many things can happen, and a state away seems pretty far to me.
We should remember that children need to be watched over, they should not be left alone, us believing they will know what to do like an adult, if an emergency arises.
Sometimes they do, I must add also.
Hope you can find a good solution to your dilema
love light and peace

At 13 they can be left alone for a few hours but NOT overnight. If you leave him overnight, child services can be called and you could have your child taken away for endangerment. Children can be left alone overnight after the age of 16.
His safety and health are more important than his grade. As others have posted try and find a sitter of some sort or a family friend he can stay with.

If you need to leave him home to work on his project, have him stay with a family member like grandparents or aunt/uncle. you can always have his friend go to their house and work on it with him. Then he will be supervised while you are gone. I think 13 is a little too young yet to be left alone for a whole weekend while you are in a different state.

I would not leave them alone with out adult supervision. You have no idea what the 13 year-old girl will allow or not - or what she would initiate for that matter. I would not consider going out of town without them, but that's just me. If it's a family emergency, take your sons and write a note to the teacher letting her know you had to leave out of state. You're inviting trouble if you leave them.

Trust your intuition and don't leave him at home by himself. You can lay down the rules all you want to, but teens have a thing about breaking the rules. I think that you should do the right thing and cancel your trip and stay home with your son so that he can get his work done. If it's impossible to cancel the trip, hire a babysitter.

Why dont you invite your sons classmates over to your house? Sounds like youre conflicted about this and dont have the trust you need to allow him over his friends house. I also have a 13 y/o and personally I would not permit him to do what your son wants to do.

I hope you're kidding...no 13 year old should be left home alone overnight...this is irresponsible and poor parenting.

Does the girls parents know that you won't be home??? Is there somewhere else they can meet at least when they are together, I probably wouldn't leave them alone.
