I'm 20 years old, and moved to a college town from a primarily senior citizen town last summer. I grew up in a conservative, way too religious home. My mom also made me homeschool during highschool. Now I'm trying to break away from all that, and live a normal life. In my hometown, most of the parties were only at the druggies homes. Since I'm not into that, I didn't have a hard time socializing with a few people like myself. I'm not really for or against drinking. The fact that I'm so inexperienced seems to really be holding me back from making friends. I've only ever tried beer and part of my friend's martini. Drinking seems to be the only way people here know how to have fun. How do I fit in here? Other than that factor, most people seem to like me.

avoid the druggies, unless you have already given up on life and fallen into that sort of thing, anyway, prolong doing that as long as possible, maybe consider it in your 90s.
then, go to the parties, don't judge people who are drinking, order selzer with cranberry juice , if the people don't all just seem stupid and drunk, you could meet and would have a real advantage, being sober and all
also, being a designated driver is sometimes a way to make friends

Since you come from a conservative and religious background (and their is nothing wrong with that) I would suggest finding a good church with a youth singles group. Christian like to have fun also. Hope this helps.

It sounds like you are a likeable person...so just enjoy yourself and things will all fall into place. But dont foreget where you came from, religion is also something you should not put aside. Go with your instincts and smile and always laugh alot...

I was never the drinker in my group of friends.You will be amazed how many parties you can go to and being the sober driver for the drinkers. Have fun, they will not think bad of you at all..

i say just be yourself and true friends will find YOU! or just try to start a conversation, like oh, dont you go to this college or oh, i have math class with you right, did you get the homwork? you never know till youll try!
