Well this is obvious but try not to be nervous. Nerves will just make you tense up and make it uncomfortable. You will lay on the table wearing a paper robe, the doctor will feel your breasts and armpits for lumps and then do the vaginal exam. First she will use a finger, it feels like pressure, but not painful. She will use a lot of KY Jelly for lubrication, don't worry. Then she will use a speculum. This part is sometimes cold (unless they have a warmer) and can pinch or pull a bit. This is the part where you will stare up at the ceiling and think "when will this be over?" and she will ask you about your life trying to make conversation. It goes quick, should not hurt, and that's it!

Its a little scary the first time but it isnt that bad its a tad uncomfortable but no real pain involved so dont worry about that if it is at all possible get a female doc it will settle your nerves a bit but besides that just sit back relax and it will be over before you know it good luck

No one likes going to the GYN! :( I know this is easier said than done, but relax. If you tense up, then the muscles in your vagina will be tight and it will hurt more when you are being examined. If your muscles are relaxed, then it doesn't hurt as bad.....just like sex! If a male doctor is who you have, a female nurse is REQUIRED to be in the room. Hope this helps.

well the very first time is very uncomfortable and you get very nervous. I felt better with a lady Dr then a man. I am 38 yrs old now and it is still very uncomfortable to be naked and let a strange man get up that close to you. I don't think it ever gets better. the procedure can be a very uncomfortable feeling. If at all possible try to relax and let them do what they got to do and it will be over sooner then you think. good Luck

I was scared but it works out they are just doing there job but it does not mean that they don't care how you feel or think. Let them know how you feel and ask as many question as you feel.

i kinda freeked out when i had to go for my first time.
it was just last month actually...
just try to stay calm, think about something that relaxes you...
like walking on the beach or something...don't think about it...
it doesnt hurt or anything, it just feels really creepy!!!
