what in your opinion is the greatest invention to benefit mankind?

Antibiotics. Without these medicines, our life expectancy would be a lot lower (early 40s maybe, instead of late 70s). Also, infant mortality rates would be a lot higher.

Quite possibly the internet. As the population grows to unsustainable levels, it may be the communication provided by the internet that helps mankind find a benevolent solution to this problem.
