What are some of the stupidest lies your parents told you to get you to do something (or not do something)?

Let me start you off with some examples:
"If I ever catch you with an adult magazine, I will take you to the vet & have you neutered"

"I knew a boy once who got his girlfriend pregnant, and her father burned the boy's family's house down"

"If you don't stop acting crazy, you'll have to see a psychiatrist. Do you know what the psychiatrist will do? He'll cut your head open and take out a piece of your brain. Then he'll give you electric shocks"

While on vacation:
"If you don't behave, I'll mail you home in a box"

"If you don't pick up your room, I'll call the board of health over to have it declares a toxic waste dump"

This should be a lot of fun. I am interested in the lies your parents told you. I am also interested in whether you believed it at the time.

when i was younger, before i had surgery, my mom told me that they were going to take me to a magical place with candy. Boy were they wrong.

My mom told me as a child that if we didn't behave and settle down that she was going to run far away and never come back. That really scared me as a child and always feared that one day she would decide to pack the bags in leave. That is probably the worst lie she ever told me all for sake of retaining her sanity. She raised six of us in a small house. She never ran away and we were always the best behaved kids on the block, or so she was told.

It's kinda of pathetic really, I would always claim to have nothing to do, soooo...... she convinced me that if I could get close enough to a bird and throw salt on its tail then the bird would freeze and I could catch it then possibly keep it as a pet.

I'm not sure what the most pathetic part was, It could be because I actually believed her or that she was trying to get me out of her hair. :)

We tell our kids if the don't behave Santa will put sticks and stones under the tree instead of presents. I was told not to cross your eyes, because the would stick that way permanently.

I always was a willful child. Now I'm just a willful adult.
First off, my parents would not lie to me to get me to do something.
Secondly, if they did it wouldn't have worked anyway. Either I want to do something or I don't, and no lie, pleading, or begging can sway me.

[I'm 17] My mom always tells me, "If you have sex before you are married, you won't have the life you have now, because you will have a baby. You won't have everything you want..blah blah blah...and yeah..." It's not really a lie, but she does always tell me that. Hahaha :D

Then I look at her and say, "Well you had me, and look where we are now!"
