Two severed hands.

No, I'm just kidding.

But in a more serious light, a lonely man's worst enemy is himself. Because, obviously, no one else is around to be his enemy. Gain friends, become unlonely, and he will not be his worst enemy anymore.

Too much free time. When a lonely person is not occuppied with something their mind starts to wander and think too much. When a person is lonely the best thing to do is occuppy themselves in work, hobbies, volunteer work, family. Working with children is good also because they are so unpredictable. Being lonely really sucks, so I hope this can help someone out.

No one is ever alone. He may be without human contact, but there are other beings (insects, birds, dogs) that he can interact with. The isolated man can discover more about his surroundings and investigate the scientific, or he can sit and dwell only on himself and his misery, he will be sorrowful and angry and possibly crazed, so his worse enemy must be his own mind, himself.

Time. There is no greater enemy of a lonely man who, engaged in the war of hopelessness, has nothing but "time" with which to fight his battle.

A lonely woman - because their loneliness would overcome their judgement in coming to know each other.

Imagination - with no human curb on his imagination, he can get caught up in unreal positive hopes and destructive negative feelings.

Shyness - fear - because it would keep him from seeking the companionship he needs.

Television - because it can seem to fill a void and keep him from seeking human companionship.

Lack of belief in God - because it leads him to think this is all that is, and there is no hope. (People who believe in God know that there is ALWAYS hope, always the possibility that things can and will improve. )

And the obvious false solutions of drugs, alcohol, casual sex, overwork - it can be a long and destructive list.

Depression, country music and a loaded weapon.

Lack of self-esteem is a killer. You can be surrounded by people and still be lonely if there is an emptiness inside.

Peace

going through life alone without any family or friends...
Not being able to share the most important things in life with anyone.
Losing all the will to live. That would be the lowest point.

An undisciplined mind would be his worst enemy because it could lead him to believe lies, make him paranoid, make him follow the wrong leaders, make him doubt himself.
