My daughter is doing a report on jobs that early chippewas had. We found some male jobs but are having a hard time finding about the females.

As bush Indians, my Dene grandma sometimes went on the hunting and trapping trips with my grandpa to skin the game, usually caribou, sometimes on a dogsled in the winter. In fact, it was on one of these outings when my own mother was born on an early November morning. Her birth certificate says she was born on the Lake Athabasca Saskatchewan!! How cool is that!! To this day my mom still hates the cold.

As the family got larger, they would often travel together with the kids. If this was during school terms, the kids would have to pack along their homework and work through that while learning how to hunt. The teacher would arrange to meet the family along the way to collect their homework and give them more assignments.

Other than that, the usual, make clothes, do some bead work, cook, raise the children, take care of the household.
