sometimes the converter says its connected, sometimes not. sometimes it will say its connected but only for a few seconds. whats the matter?

Did you update both the converter software and the Sansa firmware?

I often have the same problem with my sansa player. For me it is a physical connection problem, usually between the player and the cable. Unplug the USB cable from both the player and the PC. Plug the cable into sansa player firmly (make sure you have a good, firm, snug connection). Then plug the cable into the pc's usb port. In windows media player hit F5 to have windows media player to re-try to find your sansa.

On the software side, it may be the USB setting of MTP vs. MSC. If you are using Windows and you want to use Windows Media Player to sync to the Sansa, the Sansa needs to be in MTP mode. If you are using a different operating system or simply want to drag and drop files on to the Sansa then MSC mode is the better choice. On Sansa got to Settings>USB to change between MTP or MSC.
