in gangsta films if a man is wearing a checkerd cuit does it mean he is weathy or not?

Now that you've got me thinking about it, about all the gangster films I've seen, it seems that when a low-key wanna-be gangster does a good 'job' and makes lots of 'new money' then he does put on a checkered suit AND white shoes...lol Maybe it's to indicate his 'checkered past' or just his bad taste in having 'new money'. It seems to be the concensus that when someone comes into 'new money', especially in the 70s, they go out and buy some very tacky clothes. Notice the Godfather never wore anything tacky. He came from 'old money' or at least his sons did ;-)

compared to them.The suit was just the fashion of the time,
it made you part of the gang.
