People associate the Condfederate flag with racism because when America was going through it's Civil War, the north had their flag, and the south had theirs. Most everyone thinks that the south was fighting to keep slavery, but they were actually fighting to keep themselves separate from the north. But yes, you're right, it is a sign of southern independence.

To most of us, the Rebel Flag is just that. A symbol of rebellion.

I think the only ones who get offended by it are the uneducated and the ones who just want to make a big deal out of something.

I hate to sound so Cliche, but in the series The Dukes of Hazard, there was NEVER anything racist. The Duke Boys NIVER said anything out of the way about anyone, and they were polite southern men.
