why does the question sin(1/2) not have two angles for a answer but instead quals pi/6?

are there restrictions on what the answer can be for sin cos tan? if so waht are they?

I think the reason is that the answer was found using the sin^-1 (x) function (sine inverse). The sine inverse function looks only at quadrants I and IV for angles. So in an interval say [0, pi] there would be two answers, but there is only one such angle in the range from [-pi/2 , pi/2].

No, actually, there are two answers.
Your calculator is just giving you the answer in ONE of the FOUR coordinents.
Sine is positive in quads I and II
Simply put your answer in quad II.
so, the answers are 30 and 150 degrees
OR
pi/6 and 5pi/6 radians
