It depends on the country you're from...

You will need a valid passport to get into the country - The Netherlands,

and also MUST carry a valid passport on you, at any time, when you are walking around inside the country. When you leave The Netherlands, your passport must still be valid.

You did not say where you are from, but for some countries people are obliged to bring (and carry) a passport that is valid at least 6 more months, counting from the day of entry.

It will be best to check out the website of The Netherlands Embassy, based in your country. You can find the right website here (chose your country): http://www.mfa.nl/en/navigation_left/websites_of_-foreign

If you're a US citizen I'd say get your passport renewed. I had a friend who travelled to germany from the US w/ a passport that only had 3months left on it. When she arrived in Germany she had to go to the US embassy and go through all this **** to prove to the germans she was only there for a visit and not intending on staying.

Rule of thumb is make sure your passport is valid for atleast 6months before travelling.

Of course you need a passport to go to any country. And, better a valid one for at least 6 months.

Yes, you do, to get out of any country anywhere u need a passport. For one, you need it for ticket Verification from your airline. Also, you need it so you can get a visa (or entry stamp to the netherlands if your a US citizen) to prove your not some refugee from a turd world country. PAssports are important, you can get a speedy renewal for one for an extra fee.

if you travel before it expiers you be good to go, as long as you go back before that date as well. since amsterdam is in the netherlands you need it to travel, but that all depends on where you from, if you from germany maybe you guys also have these identificationcards, you can travel with that in europe if you are one of the EU counties.

enjoy your trip
