meta tags question?

what tags are essential? i know there are meta tag generators all over the place that i can use but i am looking for what is needed

can you use to many tags and get hit by the search engine robots? this is what i am currently using ---

Most of the ones you mentioned are not used by the search engines.

Here is what you actually need:

http://www.seo-blog.com/title-element.php

http://www.seo-blog.com/description-meta-tag.php

http://www.seo-blog.com/keyword-meta-tag.php

http://www.seo-blog.com/character-encoding.php

And that's it! Anything else will just get in the way of the search engine bot as it is making its way to the content.
