A computer is a machine for manipulating data according to a list of instructions.
Computers take numerous physical forms. Early electronic computers were the size of a large room, consuming as much power as several hundred modern personal computers. [1] Today, computers can be made small enough to fit into a wrist watch and be powered from a watch battery. Society has come to recognize personal computers and their portable equivalent, the laptop computer, as icons of the information age; they are what most people think of as "a computer". However, the most common form of computer in use today is by far the embedded computer. Embedded computers are small, simple devices that are often used to control other devices—for example, they may be found in machines ranging from fighter aircraft to industrial robots, digital cameras, and even children's toys.
the humble pc is just one example of a computer, your mobile phone is a form of a of a computer.

It actually depends, you can call your Playstation 2 a computer ONLY if you have a worldwideweb connecting device with it. The worldwideweb connects your Playstation 2 into the internet, and you can play online games on your TV with it. Otherwise, it is called a console. You cannot call Playstation 2 a computer because the term 'computer', is a device that connects to the internet, and if you do not have the worldwideweb connection device, your Playstation 2 cannot connect to the internet, and therefore, it is not a computer. It is a console. So really, it depends. Sorry that you can't win the argument, but here's what. Tell your boyfriend that you have a worldwideweb connection device for your Playstation 2, and say that now your Playstation 2 can connect to the internet, so therefore, a computer. If he wants proof that you have one, say that you were playing on it too much and that your parents took it away. I hope you win the argument! Good luck!

A PS2 is not a computer. It is a console I understand your argument and perhaps I might be wrong but I would never call it a computer.

Yes the PS2 is technically a computer.
You can use it as a real computer with the PS2 Linux kit, but it doesn't make a very good one.

It is a computer. Even calculators are computers.
There are even websites dedicated to putting Linux on a PS2 to use as a PC.
