In order for a book to be deemed historical fiction, it has to be about a time prior to the time in which it was written. When Jonathan Swift wrote Gulliver's Travels it took place in current times, therefore, it is not really historical fiction.

I liked Women of the Silk set in China for historical fiction. My Brother Sam is Dead is set in the American revolution and it's good.
