Do you ever worry that your reponse to a question is inappropriate and could actually cause someone harm? I have read some questions that suggest the person asking is in a very fragile place emotionally - yet people give a flip response to try to be funny or clever. Just curious as to whether this concerns anyone else. Do you think people's answers have the potential to harm?

Perhaps, but every person is responsible for their own actions and decisions. So what the person does with the response and how they react to it is their decision and the consequences of the decision are theirs and theirs alone. The person asking the question can also avoid many flippant responses by the manner in which they pose the question.

If someone is THAT fragile, that they can't blow off a one sentence response that is obviously not intended for any help whatsoever, then what are they doing in an anonymous public forum with their sensitive problems in the first place?

Sure, some people probably aren't realizing how mean-spirited they are being, but if someone would actually be so affected by an answer from someone they don't even know or ever will, then they are already unbalanced to the point that they were going to use something as an excuse to be stupid.

I think it's the sincere answers that come from an uninformed, judgemental, or immoral opinion that are more damaging, because they have more of a chance to be taken as a "good" opinion to consider.

Yes but it is also the responsibility of the person asking the question to evaluate the answer and THINK!
