This is just too easy.

the 3 thins from home to take with me

At 3. My guitar for those long nights with no playstation

At 2. My dog, just incase it has bee a poor day out hunting for food then at least I got hot dog(s) for a night.

And the most important item to take with me would be.........................My wife, to grow the vegetables, make my clothes, prepare the food and cook it.

Like I said, Easy :-)

The first answer was hilarious.....

My question is: Under what circumstances? Is this if the world was 80% destroyed? Or are you referring to what 3 things I would take with me if my house burned up in a fire?

If it was a total disaster where money and credit cards were no longer available, and barter was the only monetary unit....if the earth was destroyed and impossible to grow anything, I would say that I would take: 1. My family, 2. my toolbox, and 3. a cooking pot full of dried beans. The beans would sustain us until we could find a place to hunt or grow food.

If it was a matter of my city being ruined by a hurricane, I would take my wallet (which contains credit, cash, id, phone numbers and passport), my family, and my car.

I can sew, garden, cook, and build.
My husband can hunt, slaughter, garden, cook, and build.

Yes... I could do all that... though I would be much better as a farmer than as a hunter. I can only snare rabbits... I have only shot a gun once!

I am assuming I am not allowed to live in my home...

Three items from my home... my sharpest knife (has a built in flint), warming clothing, and an axe. (mind you, I'd have to come back for the seeds I have stored for my garden in the spring!) But as I live in Northern Canada, survival would be first and foremost this time of year! Spring doesn't happen for us until mid-May!

It would be tough, but I think I could do it. Provided that I have full access to a plot of land to farm and live on and unrestricted access to a lake or river.

Of the items I currently own, I would need my sewing kit (to make and repair cloth and clothing), my largest kitchen knife (to help make other tools and butcher any fish I catch - I don't think I could catch a mammal or bird to eat, but I know I can fish) and my Norton Anthology of Literature (to keep my mind sharp and pass the time when I'm not busy just keeping myself alive).

Mostly, but I'm not too good at sewing, so the clothes would look a little funny. I'd probably want to brush up on my old Boy Scout manual to see what wild plants I could eat also.

I'd take a knife, a cast iron skillet, and some twine.

you got two shots in one. one question but two distinct parts. if i had to become self sufficient on an island (Robinson Crusoe way) with the practical knowledge of depending on everything in the consumer society....i will probably die from cold and hunger -- I am not good at self preservation in the wild. I know how to swim but not how to fish. and the latter is more important than the first. as for the second part of your question --again assuming it is a deserted island. I will take first and foremost "my dog" (he is not a hunter dog nor a guard dog but he is my dog and excellent companion) --next I will take food and drinks plenty to survive --third i will stash some money in case a sailor or a pirate wants to rescue me and my dog from a life -- I can not possibly survive. Hope it helps you --but certainly it does not help me --survive. Let me sleep on the idea and hopefully forget about the venture.

I guess that most of us would discover just how few of our possessions we really need and how ignorant we are about how to use nature.
So, I think I would take a huge box of matches so I could make fire....rubbing sticks together is too difficult
I'd have to take a container of some sort so I could collect berries etc to eat and have something to hold/cook them in.
And penknife, I guess. I could use it to cut, to stir, to protect me, and to dig with.
After that I think I'd sit and cry or hope that a modern day Tarzan would arrive to rescue me.
