I'm fifteen and pretty sure I'm leaving school in June. I have a want to become a chef so I want to do a cooking course at college. Recentley my friends have told me I'm making a huge mistake by not going to sixth form. They say that I wont end up cooking and that I'll have nothing to fall back on. But this is something I really want to do now. I wouldn't enjoy being in the school system anymore. I don't enjoy and I'm ready and wanting to be in the adult world.

What shall I do?

All of your help is appreaciated. =]

I'm in my early fourties and ten years into my third career. Each has been in a distinct field, and I'm probably going to be in this occupation (or some variation of it) for the rest of my life.

If, however, tomorrow, I decided that I wanted to do something radically different, I could. I have the freedom to make that kind of change because I have a solid basic education behind my master's degree (which is not related to my undergraduate degree, by the way). And trust me, having this freedom keeps me from feeling trapped in my job when I'm having a rough few weeks or months where I think I want to chuck it all. If I REALLY want to chuck it all, I really can.

Dreams grow and change. Don't limit your future opportunities.

Don't rush to be part of the real world. Trust me it's not all that. I would leave school only if I'm definite about what I want to do with my life. At age 15 most people aren't definite. The majority of people change what they want to do careerwise multiple times, even adults. I suggest you stay in school, in the event that u realize you don't want to be a chef later on in life.

I don't know where you go to school and am not sure about this "sixth form"...but net/net, sounds like you're leaving your basic education early. I think you should stick it out and graduate with your peers. It will be good for you to have that education and degree whether the cooking works out for you down the road or not. Your opportunity to pursue culinary school will come soon enough.
