I think he hopes he is, lol. I like his work but for the life of him he just can't seem to get the endings right. No matter how great the film was you walk out felling let down at the end.

That was the hype for M. Night Shyamalan after the release of "The Sixth Sense". In reality, there will never be another Alfred Hitchcock and M. Night Shyamalan is nowhere near his level.

No, for several reasons.
M. Night so far has filmed only screenplays/stories written by himself. Hitchcock nearly always filmed other people's stories.
M. Night's films, although mysterious, are very rarely suspenseful. Hitch was known as the master of suspense. The tension in his films was tertrific.
M. Night's stories seem to be always about people too dumb to know what's happening to them, and half the time what's happening is kind of dumb to begin with. Hitchcock's films, though now and then a lttle too coincidental, featured intelligent characters in truly real and dangerous situations.
Finally, all of Hitchcock's films were thought out scene-by-scene and shot-by-shot, carefully crafted masterpieces of film-making. M.Night's films (with the possible exception of The Sixth Sense) don't come anywhere close.
M.Night Shamalan makes movies. Most of them are watchable, sometimes two or three times.
Alfrd Hitchcock made over fifty films. Most of them are very good, some are excellent, all of them are worth watching and studying.

I think M Night Shyamalan is a bit of one trick pony. Hitchcock was one of the greatest directors of the last century. I don't think any of MNS's films stand up against Psycho, Read Window, Vertigo, North by Northwest, to name a few....
Having said that Lady in the Water didn't deserving the berating it got.

I think he did an amazing job with "Sixth Sense". I can see Shyamalan becoming the Hitchcock of his time, just needs more time to do so.

M. Night Shyamalan isn't the master like Hitchcock was, but I would say that he is the best equivalent we have.

Hitchcock is the master, you shouldn't even use those names in the same sentence. Shyamalan hasn't ived up to the hype surrounding his name.

Not for me, he made a couple of horrible mistakes, The village should have never been filmed, hahaha, the wost movie ever...and his other movies weren´t that cool, for me Saw´s director is really good...or the Asian director from the ring among other great horror films....Definitively I do not consider him a director to be at Hitchcock´s level.

Hitchcock wasn't a writer, but the films he directed were far superior. They actually made sense.
