I would start by contacting cleaning services in your area, Merry Maids, etc. and get some quotes for how much they charge so you can get a good idea of how much a competitive rate to charge. If you can get your name out there by word of mouth referrals, contacts from friends, neighbors etc. that is helpful. Check out your local newspaper and place an ad in the classified sections. You may also contact some realtors and get some business cards printed to leave with them for their customers who need help sprucing up homes for sale.

Go to your local Home Depot and wait for someone to pick you up.

Make sure you say "No Speak English" and don't show anybody your documentation when prospective clients drive by.

Alternatively, you could advertise on Craigslist.org as a reliable, honest English-speaking cleaning service (will you be the cleaner, or will you have others working for you?). One of the biggest concerns that many people have is that their cleaning person:

* Will steal from them
* Doesn't speak English
* Is late/doesn't show up/takes too long
* Will break something
* Doesn't actually clean what they ask for (not usually a problem with honest English-speakers).
* Is a Legal resident who pays their taxes.

Ever hear of NannyGate? This is a huge problem for people and until the IRS implements a system where people can electronically verify a person's legality, it is a huge implicit value to have someone who is a native English-speaker that ALSO has a Credit Bureau (Equifax/Experian/Transunion) credit report with them to prove their legality & creditworthiness, which means they can be trusted.

Once you get one or two good clients, it is easy to get more through referrals (if you do a good job).

Another approach you may want to consider is to go after business clients. They tend to offer more steady employment (don't go away for the holidays) and pay decently well, all things considered - especially if you like working after hours or want to pick up extra hours. Some small business owners have multiple locations and you could work out an arrangement to clean each of their locations once a week, each on different days of the week. Since there is a big expense/security risk in hiring new cleaning crews, once you get a "contract" with a business, it will be almost as good as gold... you will have to really screw up to lose the job, even if your prices rise at a reasonably high rate.

Well, first off you should go to Home Depot and pick up some materials. I would suggest you get glass cleaner, A counter cleaner like Fantastik, Floor Cleaner, Dust Sheets (swiffer works good), garbage bags, brooms and mops (and sponges too). Then you advertise. You can either send a flyer around your town or you can advertise in a church bulletin (esp. for the older people who can't do much cleaning). You can also try the newspaper to advertise in too. Then get yourself an appointment book and schedule people in for a house cleaning when they call. Also charge a reasonable price. Nobody will hire you if you charge them $300 for a full cleaning. Good Luck

the best place to start off is go to a subdivision that is in the process of being built and offer to clean the houses once they are finished before the buyer moves in.
