My good friend out of states wife bought herself a new Harley, and has put her 85 Sportster up for sale.I saw this bike when i was at their home last month, and it seems to run great and looks to be in reasonable shape.I only assume Harley's keep there value for a great deal of time. They want 1800.00 for the bike and i would like to know any info ,ie is it a good deal,or should i look around

1800 would be reasonable for a sportster. most harley owner's care enough about their bikes to keep up on the maintainence so they will still run as good as when they got them. sporty's are strong runners, especially if they have the stage 1 or both stage 1 and stage 2 on them. their great on gas also, and no.....their not a girl's bike.

geeze $25,000 for a sportster.i build bikes and buy and sell alot. thats a great deal on the bike and like that guy said you can put a little more in it and make it nice, any clean strong motor HD sportie will bring $2,500 -$3,000 i sold a 80 for $4,300 but it was a sweet bobber i built to sell. i payed $2,100 for it ..alot of people think harleys all cost $25,000 now but the market is flooded now not like 10 yrs ago..i"ve seen several 97-98 1200 sporties go for $3,500 on e bay chromed out....as for the girl bike thing??? the sportster is HDS SPORT bike!!! get it? its fast and made to go quick noit like a fat boy,get it FAT BOY= SLOW...most people who dog a sportie have never had a Harley, and when they think about buying a bike. they think out of there price range for there first bike or one they can"t afford ever..so they never get one..I see it all the time..oh if I have to ride a Sportster i"ll just not ride...if your under 6ft there fine, just alittle tight for a big guy...buy low sell for more and keep moving up till you get a big twin or what ever you want..I ride Triumphs,BSA,,Harley ..and I love the 1200 sporties maybe some day when i"m old i"ll get a bagger bike ..that bike is worth on a good day $3,000-$,4,000...if it s a 1200cc...less if its a 883 or 1000cc...

Coming from a former Harley Davidson sales rep - thats a great deal. It'd be a decent deal on any motorcycle that runs well. I mean just how little do you wanna spend on a machine that is gonna transport you around reliably and safely?

Buy it. Before they change their mind.

I'm not sure if you're talkin dollars or pounds. Even a 1985 would go for mid 3 to around 4500 dollars ,at 1800 dollars its a steal. Even if your talking pounds its still a pretty good deal. One would assume if it were a P.O.S. your friends would not sell it to you, but always wise to do a bit of shopping. If you are talking dollars buy it quick.

1800.00 for a $25,000 bike, yeah they are being very nice to you and are very good friends. The Frame alone is worth more than that. The motor is worth about $1k. Gas Tank about $800. yeah, buy it if you want a bike.

It is not a bad deal. I get the feeling that the price is a little low because you are a friend. If it's in decent shape, it should be worth that easy.

It sounds like an okay deal, but if you don't know bikes, get someone that DOES know bikes to look it over first.

That is a steal. If you don't buy it, give me the chance, it would go nice with the two I have now.
