Ahh, a good question. My wife and I agonized over those three just a few months ago. This is how we decided.
The iPod.
We both liked the iPod. The navigation was a snap. The iPod store was, in my opinion, easy to navigate. Most of the songs we were looking for was available. It can handle the MP3, WMA, and other file formats that we were likely to use. It was definely in the front running for our uses.
Zune.
We liked the idea of playing the video and seeing the pictures, and playing the music. The built in FM receiver was nice addition. Not necessary, but a nice option.
But the negatives outweighed the positives. Bad publicity, the 3 days sharing thing, gotta get propriety permissions. From what we understand the wireless option literally ests the hell out of the battery. It only works when you are in proximity to someone else with a Zune.
BAH! Too much BS involved.
Creative
We decided in the end to go with the Creative Zen Vision M. It has 30GB of memory, built in batteries that can be charged using the USB port. The software is so easy to use. The video converter needs to have its codecs updated though. I shoot video using a Sony DSC H5. The frame compression is too much for the converter to handle, so I had to use a freeware video conversion tool to reduce it a bit. Aside from that, it transfers beautifully and when it plays back, it's crystal clear. Navigation is easy, just a bit getting used to the touch pad. But when you do learn it, it's second nature. Transferring MP3's is easy. You can shuck all your tunes to the Zen, and create playlists from them on the computer. It will transfer your lists to the Zen. From the menu, you have a DJ option that you can either play your lists in order or in random shuffle. Same for all songs. You can rate them and play them back according to ratings.
The pictures can be organized by file and several display options are available including a slide show.
Likewise wth the Zune, the Zen has an FM tuner. Nice option, but not really necessary.
The price is what nailed us to it. iPods are around $300 for a 40GB, $250 for a Zune, but the Zen was $199.
I hope this helps.

Zune! The navigation is noticeably lots comparable to an iPod. i got here across it to be very intuitive as quickly as I opened the field. The demonstrate screen is gigantic, super for staring at a action picture collectively as on workout. The application is iffy appropriate now, not fairly as polished as iTunes, yet very useable. I assume the applying to grow to be greater beneficial over the subsequent 3 hundred and sixty 5 days or so with greater beneficial updates. Zune additionally has wifi and FM tuner. the aptitude makes use of for wifi are neat. The Zune case is likewise greater robust than the iPod case. however the kicker is which you will "hack" Zunes. a rapid internet surf will tutor you all the neat issues you're able to do to it with a pair steps; turn it right into a conveyable complicated force that would keep any variety of record, replace sharing regulations, even run Linux on it. i think in the experience that your technologically illiterate and additionally you have chose to overpay for issues that are well-known and delicate, circulate with the iPod. yet once you have any self-admire, get the Zune. Or greater beneficial yet get a suited-of-the-line SanDisk Sansa which will play something and has flash memory fairly of the complicated force.

Well dude, Ipod in my opinion is one of the biggest selling mp3 players in the industry. I wouldn't get the Ipod because there's been so malfunctions and problems with them lately. Zune is a pretty good mp3 player. But I don't like Creative, I just don't like their designs. They're ugly to me. But I have an mp3 player and it it Sansa. My Sansa mp3 player has radio, video, pictures, music and recordings. It's pretty sweet. The best option for downloading music into this mp3 player is Rhapsody or Limewire. Hope I helped and good luck with that!

The Zune and Zen really suck. I have the iPod video. There is no navigation, the music store costs a dollar per song (but i don't care, i use limwire), you need iTunes and it supports mp3s and aac, battery replacement is free under warranty, 3 year warranty is 60$ (Really worth the money), really easy to use, and the design is soooooo nice. Check this link out : http://www.apple.com/ipod/ipod.html
And, the Zune looks mad ugly, and the zen just sucks. Thee zine is also by microsoft, and... Microsoft will try and get everything out of you for the features, so iPod is your best bet. I got mine over the Zune, not dissappointed.

An 80 gigabyte iPod Video. You can seriously get them. My dad's holds 10,000 songs and it costs like $249.00 but, they hold videos like every other iPod Video. BUT it holds like 8,000 more songs. He only has like 400 though.
