Pluto was a planet and i already asked why did they just decide to demote pluto... but why was pluto a planet???

There wern't really any rules about it at the time and we really didn't have any idea how many other intermediate range bodys were also out there.
Basicaly, they wern't really thinking.
Logicaly, there's no reason to believe those sort of objects shouldn't be found.

because it's big enough for people to consider it a planet and it orbits the sun. There were no rules then.

they considered asteriods planets for a while
untill they did some research on it
they might as well call it a planet
