Most native USA turtles (maybe all) do not eat this time of year. Also, if it is very young it might not eat for quite awhile. Hatchling often don't eat for their first year if life. Their yolk sack continues to feed them.

First make sure the basic cares are right- they won't eat in bad situations.

They need a lot of warm water- figure at least 10 gallons of swimming space per linear inch of turtle heated to 75-80F. They need heated basking sites (90F), good lighting, etc.

Once you get the cares settled, they should eat well. Try 25-50% good pellets and the rest things like worms, bugs, small fish, shrimp, beef heart, etc.

I have one of these, i've had him for just over a year now.
Terrapins won't eat if the water is not at a good temperature. They like really nice warm water. My heater is set at 28.c.
I feed mine on various pellets, live crickets, fresh fish, prawns and even crab sticks!
If you feed him fish don't remove any parts as they all benefit the turtle.
Mine doesn't really like fruit or veg but seems to eat a little watercress.
Good luck!

i have the same species with me , two of them
i have the same problem with them
actually it takes time to adjust in the environment
it will surely eat in about 3 weeks(its a long time i know)but it can stay hungry for about 2 months but don't try that
give him the fish food till he grows up
and if i advise u should buy the second one of opposite gender
a single turtle cannot survive for a longer time
if still it doesn't eat try talking to them i m sure they"ll not respond
but still talk with them
and slowly slowly they"ll get attached with u and will let u pet it

keep it atleast out for an hour per day in sunlight under supervision as they r one of the best escapers

feed it only once a day
probably after coming back from a walk in sunlight

don't touch it for the 1st few weeks

feed them with fish food(available in the aquarium shops)

buh bye
good luck for ur new family member
i hope it starts eating
