a friend of mine is being charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery his lawyer told him that he can get probation and no prison term..is this true.he is an adult

Sounds a bit lenient but it all depends on what role in the conspiracy he had. If he was driving the get-away car, he almost definitely will do jail time but if he just let the robbers borrow his car (and knew what they were up to) this might be reasonable.

There's a difference between what he "can" get, ie what the Judge's sentencing powers are, which include prison, and what he is likely to get, which may well be no more than probation, depending on previous character, the nature of the offence and personal circumstances.

If his lawyer says not to worry then, believe him or get a new lawyer!
