"Night" shows the human condition. We need to remember the events of history and learn from others experiences. It is a thoughtful look at one man life and the hardships that he endured.

This book is still a part of our history... world history that is. I felt that way when I was first asked to read it but as I read it I understand why.
Mass genocide is still being committed on people of different races, cultures and religions all the time... even as I type this. We always hear about Darfur, Tibet, Rwanda, Northern Ireland... and many other places we don't hear about. There aren't many personal survival accounts from these events because they are so recent.
Reading "Night" is a way to inform people (especially young adults in school) the kind of things that occur in this world and how easily people/countries can turn a blind eye to horrible events that effect us all.

"Night" by Elie Wiesel is a true story about the Holocaust, written in simple phrases that are easy for students to understand. It is still read because this is a part of our history, a heinous genocide that must never be forgotten lest we allow it to happen again.

Everyone should be required to study the Holocaust, however Elie Wiesel isn't the greatest writer.

Why wouldn't it be?
It is published, and read, because it is an important part of the literary canon of the Holocaust.

Oprah chose it for her book club to read. She chose it apparently because it showed what can happen when people are persecuted for their beliefs, or sometimes for being associated with certain beliefs.

it is important for people to understand the horrors of the holocost, and whether or not they read it is completely up to them. the US Constitution gives the freedom of speech and of the press, and Americans can read any book they want, it is their liberty. it is illegal for the government to prohibit a book to be read.
