If you're coming off a quad stick with the quad do not try to cross. If you do plan to cross then I suggest you buy a smaller bike. However the most reliable is Yamaha. I got in a major accident on my bike, I'm extremely lucky I didn't break my spine or anything else, and my bike still runs great the Handlebars are a little bit bent and the plastics scrached but it is one tank of a bike and the stand up to anything. I think you would be better off on ATV's considering thats what you rode and buy a YFZ. I'm about the same weight and height and age and I ride a Raptor 250. With a pipe and Jet Kit it runs fast enough for me. Also the 250's will be a little slower then the YFZ maybe by a few MPH if you both go top speed balls to the wall. If you want a two stroke and decide to go with the ATV buy a Banshee. Those things rip.

All the motocross bikes are the same fast, honda cr. kawasaki kx, yamaha yz, and suzuki rm. there are made to be the fastest. the quickest acceleration and more power is another story. you dont race 100+mph on a motocross track you acc as fast a possible form corner to corner and jump to jump. that being said the suzuki rm is one of the most powerfull and best built bike out there. i personally have and race 2 of them. all are real close. honda have a lot smother power delivery, better for a slicker track, rm's have wicked powerfull powerbands and flat out haul *** and the kawasaki's and yamaha are in between. i will never own another yamaha because of the few i have owned have been junk. always breaking down and requiring more than usual maintenance.

the higher compression ratio of the yammy might be the deciding factor speed wise, but that part will be moot if u cant handle it.
