Gonzalez and Gates are both talented and reliable. But who is the best besides them when they are at their best. Shockey and Crumpler seem like easy picks, but their both hurt often and both are big babies. That hurts a team. I would say Todd Heap and the most underrated TE is Owen Daniels.

He's definitely not as good as Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates., but id like to say that Chris Cooley is the most under rated tight end in the NFL, maybe because hes techinically an H back, but Cooley made big catch after big catch for the redskins this year, and quickly developed a good relationship with Jason Campbell when he was thrown into the fire, and theres nothing more important to a young quarterback than a dependable tight end.
Plus Cooley is also a great blocker and will run the ball every now and then
also Todd Heap is great, and I agree that Shockeys a cry baby, too bad too cause he has a ton of talent

shockey is possibly the best 3rd down option for a TE, and i would NOT say gonzo is a top flight TE anymore he just has been playing horribly lately, gates is hands down #1, but after that there is a significant drop off, i would go gates, shockey, heap, jason witten, gonzalez, crumpler
