Why was it rated R back then? How violent was it? Please give me EXACT detail on every scene that was gross, gory or violent, and tell me EXACTLY what happened it those scenes. The person above me seems to be describing "The Exorcist", not "The Omen".
SPOILERS .... ..... ......... ......... ..... ..... ...
A woman hangs herself, one man is impaled by an iron spike, another man is beheaded, a toddler tries to kill his mother, a suggestion is made that a dog gave birth to an infant boy, a newborn baby is murdered (offcamera, but his skeletal remains are later found) and a father tries to stab his small son. The goriest scene is the beheading, which you can see here:

The rating can be explained in one scene, though many apply: when the girl assaults herself with the crucifix.
