I work in a small company as a Manager. One of the girls that works for me wants me out of the company. She has told the owner of the company and my manager that I don't know what I am doing and that she should be in charge. She has been with the company for one year.

I just started and have been with the company for 6 weeks. This girl though constantly pushes her work on me and then documents how I do it incorrectly. She finds two or three mistakes and makes a big issue out of them.

I find her behavior unethical and mean. She is on the brink of being fired though because she is not productive and constantly complains and does not do her work.

I don't know how to deal with someone wanting to get me fired except to ignore them and do my job. She fights with me and says that my mistakes are unacceptable. Both she and I get in trouble.

I think that she is emotionally and mentally unstable and this is affecting her work performance.

It sounds to me like she was expecting to get your job and was passed over and now she's pissed.

She's eventually going to go, it's just a matter of time.

All you have to do is meet your performance standards. Ask your own supervisor how to improve your work. You might need to put in some extra time to ensure your survival.

Each time this other employee brings mistakes to your attention, thank her and invite her to return to her own job. Then just evaluate whether she has a good point or not. If you can take her rudeness as a resource for improving your own performance, do it. If she's being petty, everyone will know it.

(If you were in the military, you would have the authority to reassign this person to mop the filthiest floor in the building 8 hours per day whether it needs it or not and assign her work to someone else as a means of disciplining her and letting her know that it's a bad idea to make waves.)

I would ask for a meeting with the owner and your manager. You may want to have an uninvolved party present.
(Always good to have a witness so things you say cannot be twisted.)

I would state things simply. Something like this.

It has been brought to my attention that Ms Joe Blow is attempting to make me look inept as a manager and employee. She has attached my intelligence and ability to do my job correctly. What steps would you suggest that I take to reconcile this situation?

I am a business owner and I would appreciate the situation being addressed in this manner.

By allowing this situation to continue will show a weekness in your managerial skills.

You need to ultimately proove that you are better than she is. If you are manager then act like one! Dont let someone else proove better than you. If this job is so important to you then you should fight to keep your position and be efficient in your work, work smart not hard. You were put in this position because someone believes no one is better for the job than you. And this is what your superiors will see. Let her get her own self fired and you do your work. And lastly, by blessing a situation you rob her of any harm she may try to cause you.

Hi. I'm sorry to see you go through this. I had an employee who "threatened" to go to HR and complain that I "had it out for her". I wasn't worried because I'd kept a great deal of documentation about her performance. My question to you is, do you keep documentation on that person's performance? Also, you can get ahead of her by talking directly to your manager. Don't allow her to get ahead of you...stay one step ahead of her, and believe me, if you are working to the best of your ability, you have nothing to worry about. Good luck.

Do NOT do her work when she tries to push it off on you. If you are the manager, why are you doing HER work????

Also as manager cant you transfer her to a different department or to a differnet store or something?!

It sounds like the only thing you really can do is to continue doing your job and try not to let her get you in trouble.

It is time to do your managerial duty. Work is about productivity and she has failed the test. Get rid of her.
