What I really want is to rent one of the small little Metal containers so I can drive my car into it and then pack my thing in and around my car.

You can contact www.manilaforwarder.com to get a quote on a container.
I don't think your aware there is a 100% import tax on the original price of the car and the car cannot be older than 5 years old. Very expensive and getting repair parts for an american car will be expensive and hard to get here, besides trying to find a qualified mechanic to fix it.
You'd be much better off just buying a few Balikbuyan boxes and shipping them over full of sentimential stuff and buying the things you need new here.
There will be a customs seal on the container and they will be there when you open it to asses any customs tax due.

Your plan is the worst thing you can do. First, a container large enough to carry a car would be prohibitedly expensive. Secondly, as previously noted, you would need to pay an import tax equal to 100% of the resale value of your car. Buy a car there, its not cheap but definitely cheaper than your idea.

You're going to actually DRIVE in The Philippines?

Are you out of your mind?

Go there and rent a car and a driver when you need one. Otherwise, buy a cheap motorbike.

If you do not have a 13-G visa, you will pay customs tax on each item. The customs official will place a tax on it that exceeds the real value. Then to get it processed in less that 6 months you will pay hundreds or thousands of dollars in bribes. Add these costs to the shipping costs and you are probably better off giving the stuff to Goodwill. If you bring nice things to the Islands, they will probably be stolen fairly quickly after you get them out of customs.

Don't bring your car, unless it is a ferrari and your last name is Rockefeller. But you would have to ask around on yahoo answers if that were the case. Just buy a car there, dude, it won't cost you a mint like a container will.

The Philippines is a corrupt nation. The most corrupt of all government agencies is Customs. If you try to bring anything into this country you are going to get ripped. Customs will impound your goods and you will have to bribe the customs people to ever see your stuff again. That bribe is usually about double of what the goods are worth.

yeah!don't bring your car! TAXES cost much than the actual price of your automobile. Just sell it there (wherever you are), and then you can buy a brand new one here. NO HASSLE. And besides, streets here are so narrow, you'll just bump and scratch it. =) But if you insist, try contacting local carriers. Believe me, it's not worth the effort and the dough.

well, you have to contact any shipping lines which calls the Philippines ports or call a freight forwarder to sort out this issue.
