Framer is right - it is the on ground collision of KLM and Pan Am (I think) jumbo jets in Tenerife. One was taking off, the other one was landing. Huge number of fatalities. I am not including 9-11, of course because it wasn't an accident. It was a planned murder.
EDIT: From Wikipedia: The Tenerife disaster took place on March 27, 1977, at 17:06:56 local time (also GMT), when two Boeing 747 airliners collided at Los Rodeos Airport on the island of Tenerife, Canary Islands, killing 583 people. The accident still has the highest number of fatalities of any single accident in aviation history

i would say 9/11 but that was on purpose so if u want accidental i would have to say the Hawaiian airliner that Had part of the roof tear off while in flight (it landed safely with only a few deaths)but again its mare amazing then it is the "worst" uh..... oh! the mid-air collision between a cargo plane and a Russian passenger plane full of children. that was pretty horrible.(and the air traffic controller who was in charge of the planes was later murdered by the father of one of the children who died the the collision)
