To begin, I loved Dreamgirls. I think that Jennifer Hudson outshined Beyonce not only because of the role she played but honestly, as a actress in general Jennifer Hudson was just better. Although I like Beyonce I think that her acting in the movie mostly consisted of her just looking goofy in front of the camera. Beyonce didn't shine until she sang "Listen" in the movie. All in all, I think Jennifer Hudson had the best skills in the movie when it came to both acting and singing. Also, I liked the other girl who was in the group with them, but of course the movie didn't really focus on her talent.

I know this is gonna sound like I am sitting the fence on this question, but please bear with me.
Beyonce had to go into this project toning down her performance to reflect the character of Deena. I think she did a superb job in doing just that. This is truly a fine performance by Beyonce, and shows that she can indeed act as well as sing.
Jennifer Hudson had very big shoes to fill in playing the role of Effie. There has been a lot of contention that she does not match up to the performance of Jennifer Holiday. Hudson played the role as only Hudson could and also did a superb job of acting and singing. She put her own mark on this movie and it will be known as her gateway to stardom. I think both girls deserve awards for their performances because they both shined in equal but different ways. I also think that Eddie Murphy blew us all out of the water with his performance, showing us yet another side of this multi-talented star. It is truly a wonderful movie with a brilliant ensemble cast. A few years ago another musical, "CHICAGO" was in a similar position with much kudos being given to Rene Z, Queen Latifah, Katherine Zeta Jones, and Richard Gere. The movie walked away with many awards for its stars and the Oscar for Best Picture. Good as that movie was I believe DREAMGIRLS is even better! I hope the future brings Dreamgirls many awards as well.
