If you're talking about Internet Explorer 7, then don't feel bad because everyone wants to remove that!

1. Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel
2. Click on Add/Remove Programs
3. Find "Internet Explorer 7" and uninstall it.

If you're not talking about IE7, then you really can't uninstall any other versions from your computer. Windows pretty much still requires Internet Explorer, and removing it is nearly impossible, and unneccisary.

As for files/programs that are in use, they have to be taken on a case-by-case basis. Files that cannot be deleted because they're in use are typically system files. If you run into spyware/malware programs that you KNOW are safe to delete but you still cannot, then go get a spyware removal program and use that to remove them.

search on "Spybot Search Destroy" or "Ad Aware", install one of these, update it and remove everything they find.

To manually remove a system file or any other file that is always running and it's not spyware, there are a few steps you have to take but it can be done.

1. Put your Windows XP CD into the drive and boot onto it.
2. Choose the manual repair option, which should take you to a
DOS-type prompt.
3. From here, you can change to the directory in which the offending file is contained and manually delete it.

These steps require some understanding of DOS and its commands.

Good luck,
Mikel

You are not supposed to delete it as it is part of the operating system. Parts of the operating system need for it to be there.

There are various kludges out there for removing Internet Explorer. They also remove certain abilties from the operating system. Some of these require that you remove IE before installing Windows. NLite is one such example (for 2000 and XP only).

There is a program called Unlocker that you can get for unlocking processes that keep you from manipulating or deleting a file.

You can not delete IE from your computer, unless you are talking about IE7. As far as I know it is the only IE that has a uninstaller. If you have a older version and are using another browser just leave it in there.

If you restored from safe mode and it didn't work try using System Restore. If that doesn't work download the installer from another computer and put it on a CD. It isn't very big. Then run the installer on your computer & it will access the internet and download IE6 or IE7 whichever installer you downloaded.
