It depends on the ferry that will take you there and it also depends on the number of stops to other islands. It is about 12 hours but it could take you 10 or 8 hours. You should better go by plane(Olympic Airways or Aegean Airlines).
it is 45 minutes far from Athens by plane.

The journey can take from 10 (direct sailing) to 18 hours depending on the kind of the ferry and its itinerary.
Why don't you try the plane? It's much faster and the price difference is not significant.

The distance is 260 miles.
It will take from 6 to 15 hours depending on the type of the ship you will choose and the number of stops at other islands.
For further info check at http://www.ferries.gr/
If you book tickets early enough to my opinion it is more convenient to travel by flight as it takes 50 minutes and it is more time and cost effective.(Olympic + Aegean Airways)
